8th GRADE CELEBRATION

FCMS 8th Grade Families:

We have had a different type of end to this school year but we are still going to celebrate the accomplishments of our 8th-grade graduates that will be moving on to high school next year.  Although our celebration this year may be a little different it is no way any less special.  This began Friday, May 22 with the placement of yard signs congratulating and recognizing our 8th-grade graduates.  We will also have a drive-thru celebration this year that will begin at the middle school and end at the high school.

Procedure

  • We will begin lining up cars behind the middle school where the buses pick up at 4:30 pm on May 28, 2020.  Pull into the drive next to the football field and go around the back of the school to the staging area.  We will have volunteers guiding you.

  • At 5:00 pm we will begin the parade of graduates from the staging area through the middle school parking lot to the flag pole where you will need to stop so that students can receive their 8th-grade certificates and any awards they have earned.

  • After receiving the 8th-grade certificate and awards you will proceed to the high school parking lot by turning right on Moscow Road.  The road will be blocked off from traffic.

  • At the high school students will receive a special welcome to high school.

  • We ask that immediate family attend and remain in automobiles as we are still under social distancing guidelines and we need to maintain safe distances.

  • 8th-grade students unable to attend and 5th, 6th 7th-grade students will receive their awards and certificates with their report cards by mail.

We look forward to a special time with our 8th-grade graduates before they move on to high school.  If you have any questions please call me at the school 270-236-3923.

Thank you,

Brian Hood, FCMS Principal

NEW SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER

Fulton County School Board members voted unanimously on Monday, May 18, to appoint Brian Emmons to the board vacancy left open by Jacob Goodman.   Mr. Emmons will fill the District 5 board position until the end of the year.  Districts 5 and District 3 positions will come up for reelection in November.

Mr. Emmons has three daughters at Fulton County Schools. Madison is a 2020 senior and will be attending Murray State University in the fall to become a veterinary technician.  His daughter Hannah will be a sophomore, and his daughter Abigail will be a freshman at Fulton County High School for the upcoming year.    Brian and his wife Misti are very involved with their girls at Fulton County.  They enjoy attending all athletic events and watching their girls play volleyball.

Employed at Russom’s Carstar in Rutherford, Tennessee, Mr. Emmons works as a Body Shop Estimator.  His wife, Misti, is a 2nd grade teacher at Margaret Newton Elementary.  Since moving to this area five years ago, their family has attended the First Pentecostal Church in Union City, Tennessee, where they are very involved in the Music Ministry.

Mr. Emmons is very excited to begin his service to Fulton County Schools as a board member and looks forward to learning all that he can to help the students succeed.  He enjoys helping others and wants to make a difference at Fulton County.  Mr. Emmons stated, “I want to be a part of something great, and I think Fulton County is great.  I intend to give 100% to the board and do all that I can for our school system.”

Superintendent, Aaron Collins stated, “Mr. Emmons is a valued parent and community member.  I am grateful for his willingness to serve Fulton County School Board.”  The next board meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 28, at 6:00 p.m.  Mr. Emmons will join the other board members for his first official meeting this evening.

On behalf of the Fulton County School Board, I would like to thank Mr. Brian Hood for his leadership and graciously serving our school and community for the last two years as Fulton County Middle School Principal. Mr. Hood has chosen to be the Lead interventionist at Fulton County Middle School, and I am grateful that he will remain a Pilot and continue to promote positive ideas to improve student achievement. More information will be forthcoming in detailing the process to name a new principal for Fulton County Middle School.

Sincerely,

Aaron Collins
